The Bond movie franchise’s response to the space-based Star Wars phenomenon of the late 1970’s comes in the form of Moonraker (1979). And this fight scene perfectly encapsulates the movie’s attempt at inserting some James Bond action into the vast bleakness of space.
Although it’s not that great of a fight sequence, I do enjoy the pew-pew onomatopoeia sound of the lasers enough to enjoy them whenever they make an appearance. Their distinct sound makes me nostalgic for the days of 8-bit video games. Subjectively, I think it’s tough to make a floating gun battle scene compelling, but they manage with some clever editing, chaotic explosions, screams and effects. Not bad!
